Providing Identification — Why it's Required and How to Help Us Help You

We need to verify identity to work with banks, Centrelink, and financial institutions. You need to gather 100 points of ID. Both you (the client) and your Power of Attorney (if applicable) will need to provide ID. We know documents sometimes go missing — and we’ll help you work through it. Upload your documents securely when you're ready.

Providing Identification — Why it's Required and How to Help Us Help You

Why do we ask for identification?

As licensed financial planners and Centrelink nominees, we are legally required to confirm your identity before we can:

  • Work with banks and super funds

  • Communicate with Centrelink on your behalf

  • Assist with aged care fees, home sales, or estate matters

This process is called "Know Your Client" (KYC) and is required by:

  • Financial institutions

  • Centrelink

  • Aged care and investment providers

Why does this matter?

Think of us like your trusted personal representative.
To do the heavy lifting for you — dealing with Centrelink, banks, or aged care providers — we need to prove that:

  1. You are you, and

  2. We have permission to act on your behalf.

This is especially important when:

  • Organising aged care arrangements

  • Helping with Centrelink payments (Age Pension, Home Care Package)

  • Managing the sale of a home

  • Preparing for estate or inheritance planning

How the 100-Point ID Rule Works

Just like applying for a passport or opening a bank account, you need to collect documents that together total at least 100 points.

You will usually need:

  1. At least one Primary document

  2. Other documents to reach the 100-point target (Secondary documents)

✅ Examples of Primary Documents (worth 70 points)

Document Notes
Australian Passport Current or expired within the last 2 years
Full Birth Certificate Not a birth extract
Australian Driver Licence or Learner’s Permit Current
Australian Citizenship Certificate

✅ Examples of Secondary Documents (worth 25–40 points)

Document Notes
Medicare Card
Centrelink Card
Utility Bill Less than 12 months old
Bank Statement Showing recent transactions
Australian Marriage Certificate Registry-issued only

Who needs to provide ID?

Who? Why?
Client The person we are advising
Power of Attorney (if applicable) The person who is legally appointed to make financial decisions

What if you're struggling to find ID?

We know it can be hard, especially if:

  • You or your loved one is already in aged care

  • Driver licences, passports, or even birth certificates have gone missing

Don't worry — we are experienced with these situations.
Often, by combining secondary documents, and where we are appointed as your Centrelink Nominee, we can help retrieve missing information like:

  • Bank account details

  • Centrelink records

  • Tax File Number records
